Mission Statement

The main idea of the project

NFT-project of the Nordic Bible and Book Museum is about making the Bible collection more accessible through new technology, presenting the opportunity to own a piece of history.

What does the money go to?

The Nordic Bible and Book Museum, located in Oslo, Norway, is a non-profit organization that aims for financial independence. As the museum does not receive any government or municipal support and is in deficit, income comes exclusively from ticket sales, museum shop sales, donations, gifts and private means. All income from the NFT-project will be used to cover operational costs and in further development of the museum.

Production and reliability

All NFTs are digitalized objects from the collection of the Nordic Bible and Book Museum, which owns the rights. The NFTs have been produced by photogrammetrist Steffen Aaland at the museum.

Every bible is physically photographed with a Phase One digital medium format camera with a sensor twice as big as market leading professional digital DSLR cameras.

The NFT-Bibles are produced in two qualities:

  • Superior quality NFTs (Ultra- and Super-Rare category) are made by applying a technique called focus stacking. Between 5000 and 7000 high-resolution photographs are assembled into a 3D model photogrammetry that is exceptionally rich in details.

  • The remaining high quality NFTs in the collection are each made from no fewer than 400 to 500 images.

In order to create a digital representation that reflects the original as closely as possible, materials have been carefully added to realistically represent physical qualities such as specularity, metallic characteristics, and color-corrected textures.

About the museum

The Nordic Bible and Book Museum is the only in The Nordic region and has a collection of more than 6,000 Bibles. Located in Oslo's city center, the museum opened its doors in 2018.

One of the collection's highlights is a Gutenberg Bible page, handwritten Bible pages from the 13th century, a miniature Bible collection and Gustav Vasa's first Nordic Bible from 1541. The Nordic languages are well represented in the museum, including Bibles in indigenous languages such as Sami and Greenlandic. A themed exhibition at the museum honours the King James Version, one of the most widely distributed translations in the world.

We invite you to embark on an exciting journey through the history of the Bible, from old leather and parchment pages to today's digital editions. Discover how the Bible has influenced art, culture, legislation, language, music and society over the centuries.
