Thomas Baskett published his first “King James Bible” in 1742. This was shortly after the death of his father, celebrated publisher and printer, John Baskett (d. 1664/5-1742). He held the office of King’s printer for England, the Bible patent from 1739 and was infamous for having published the so-called “Vinegar Bible” in 1717. After his death in 1742 his sons Thomas and Robert retained the Bible patent.

The King James Bible is considered the greatest monument in English literature next to Shakespeare and has been of huge importance to English as a world language.

This Bible is part of the Rosendahl Bible Collection at the Nordic Bible and Book Museum.
